Little Things to Love

Even though this season of ‘The Bachelor‘ is over and I am still in my work pants at almost 7:00 PM, I am excited to write today’s post and to share all the little things I am loving this week.

I am loving ‘The Biggest Loser‘, leave it to me to trade one reality show for another, following some of my favorite bloggers on Instagram and Twitter, if I haven’t found you yet, call me leave your name maybe, making m&m rice krispie treats in the microwave, 1 minute to pure joy, and running 5k races, even if they are unorganized and have no bibs and chips.

ImageI am loving that Dan and I are taking Friday off from work, that I get to decide what kind of birthday cake I want this week, that my mom will be back in town tomorrow, that I have plans to be in bed tonight by 8:30, that ABC Family and Nick at Nite play reruns of ‘Full House‘, and that I walk outside to palm trees every day. If only someone could have a pina colada waiting for me.

Give Me The Simple Life

“I got no money in my pockets. I got a hole in my jeans”

Let’s be real, as a mid-20s something, cash isn’t always quite expendable. That being said, I’m not complaining. Over the last couple years, I’ve realized how content I am to live a modest and happy lifestyle. My friends and I rarely go ‘all out’ and find that some of our favorite times end up being while we are sitting on our couches, playing ‘Loaded Questions,’ eating homemade pizza, and discussing life’s most important topics, like who will win ‘The Bachelor,’ and what we want for dessert.

I’ve also found that there happen to be a fair share of affordable options for days and nights out on the town. As the weather warms, my friends and I love to make trips to the beach. We spend the morning making sandwiches and snacks and filling our coolers with drinks and ice. By the time the afternoon rolls around, you can usually find an intense game of sand volleyball or football taking place.

We also have some really cute and quaint shopping areas around us. I love to spend the day window shopping and gathering gift ideas. I am usually able to find a cute bookstore or café in these shopping strands as well, which completes the entire trip. I’m now craving specialty coffee and an afternoon spent reading my new novel.

Some of our best friends just brought home a new dog, meaning that Nola has a lot of puppy play dates in her future. We have our fair share of bars and restaurants around us that allow dogs. Meaning, I can sip a mojito and play fetch at the same time. Score!

ImageLast but not least, I love arcades and bowling. So, I have the same hobbies as a 15 year old boy. Whatever. Dan and I end up spending way too much money for him to win me a new stuffed animal in the claw machine, but otherwise have found this to be a fun and inexpensive way to spend an evening. Image

Mid-Week Must Haves

“One of the main reasons that we lose our enthusiasm in life is because we become ungrateful. We let what was once a miracle become common to us. We get so accustomed to his goodness it becomes a routine.”― Joel Osteen, Your Best Life Now: 7 Steps to Living at Your Full Potential

I have decided that I need to read this quote if not each morning, at least a couple times throughout the week. Because, if I’m being honest, when I awake in the middle of the night feeling stressed, or am entirely overwhelmed in my days, gratitude is not always at the forefront of my thoughts. I figure that there is no better way to be grateful for your blessings than by counting them.

Which brings me to my mid-week must haves! My mid-week must haves are the experiences and people that help me to appreciate each day for what it offers. This week I am looking forward to the following must haves-

Frozen Yogurt. Fro Yo outings are a weekly thing for our household. I load mine with gummi worms and enjoy every last bite.

Wii Competitions. Dan and I get pretty intense in our Mario Kart races. He claims that he beats me every time, but let’s be real, I taught him all he knows. I am basically the equivalent of Mr. Miyagi in the ‘Karate Kid‘. Aka, I am Dan’s sensei.

DVR. If you read my blog, you know that like all classy ladies, I have a deep appreciation for ‘The Bachelor‘. The fact that it is on, not once, but twice this week is simply glorious.

Popcorn and m&ms accompanied by a glass of wine. I think that the ‘Hannah Montana’ theme song, ‘Best of Both Worlds’, was originally written about the coupling of these amazing products.

Family Dinners. No surprise here, I love my mom and dad. They live about a block away from us, and I take full advantage of the proximity. I also take full advantage of my mom’s cooking, and our mother-daughter date nights. Last week, we headed out for Vietnamese. On that note, I have a new-found appreciation for Peanut Sauce. It is so good!Image
