Friday Favorites – Little Things to Love

Happy Friday! I’m joining Katie’s Friday party again today to share my favorite things from the week.

These Nutella Chocolate Chip Cookies that I made last night seem like a good place to start. My love affair with Nutella began in high school and I’ve finally learned ways to incorporate it into recipes in addition to eating it out of the jar. Long recipe short – Preheat oven to 375 – 1 stick butter + 2 eggs + 3/4 c brown sugar + 3/4 c granulated sugar + 1/2 c Nutella + 2 1/4 c flour + 2 t baking soda + capful of vanilla + lots of chocolate chips – 10 minutes!

And to even the nutritional playing field, smoothies are also in my roundup of favorites this week!

If I am making smoothies for myself, I will usually add a banana. If Dan is joining me, we stick to raspberries only. He’s been in a war against bananas since he was 4 years old, so we’re still finding ways to deal with that in our marriage. 🙂

I am so grateful for the spring weather that showed up this week and have been loving having training sessions outside. The more space for squat jumps, stairs, lunges, planks, and sprints, the better!

And before signing off, I also wanted to share my favorite meditation from Melody Beattie’s ‘Journey to the Heart’ this week.

“Each emotion, attitude, and experience – each piece of scenery – leads into the next. Put them all together and what do you have? A grand journey – an exciting trip that leads to someplace worth going and someplace worth being, each moment you are here.”

Little Things to Love

“I still get wildly enthusiastic about little things… I play with leaves. I skip down the street and run against the wind.” – Leo Buscaglia

I love that my dad is coming over to watch college wrestling today, that paninis are on the menu for the afternoon, that the forecast is full of 70s and sunshine, that we are going to the Rodeo tomorrow night to see Jason Aldean, and that I had the time to make another batch of crepes for brunch.

I love that I have friends that accept me for who I am, that I have time to bake this weekend, that other people enjoy sweatpants and Lifetime movies as much as I do, that Dan has the day off from work, and that I found ‘The Proposal‘ on television last night.

“Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough” – Oprah Winfrey

Sunday mornings may in fact be my favorite time to sit and write my ‘little things to love‘ posts. As I lounge on the couch in my robe, with Nola chewing on her bone, and Dan sitting next to me, I can’t help but feel grateful for the blessings in my life.

I love Saturday afternoon frozen yogurt outings, the beginning of spring, Pinterest recipes, and chocolate chip pancakes.

I love reading People magazine at the nail salon, watching Sports Center in the morning, seeing a forecast of 70s and sunny, and brunch with my friends and my mom.

ImageI love a new pair of jeans that fit just right, seeing the people I love happy, homemade hot cocoa, and an unexpected night out with friends.

I love wedding planning, good workouts, ‘Bachelor‘ Mondays, and a beautiful view of downtown.

“The happiest people don’t have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.”

I am always excited to write my ‘Little Things to Love‘ posts. They are an opportunity for me to express gratitude for the little things in my life that I might otherwise overlook, like the sun shining through the windows this morning, serving as a much better alarm than the iphone.

I love an hour plus phone call with my college roommate, finding ‘The Wedding Planner‘ on TV and remembering that movie is the reason that I favor brown m&ms, winning in tennis even on days that Dan only uses his left hand, and discovering this incredible yogurt at Whole Foods yesterday.

ImageI love days that require no makeup, ridiculous text messages from my friends, my mom’s positive attitude, reading other blogs, hearing the song ‘Chicken Fried‘ and relating to every word, and these dogs, who despite their incessant barking and rowdy behavior, make my life infinitely happier.

Little Things to Love

I have decided that I need a Friday playlist in my life. Complete with as many ‘working for the weekend’ and ‘this Friday night, do it all again’ references as possible. If you ask me, Fridays are reason for celebration. And what better way to celebrate than with this week’s edition of ‘Little Things to Love.’

New Toiletries. Okay, so I know that some people wouldn’t find this quite blog worthy, but I love getting new products to try.

Do You Know Your Bride & Groom Quizzes. My college roommate of 5 years sent Dan and me these books when we got engaged and they are a blast! Each page comes equipped with random questions about your fiancé.

Completed Workouts. Does anyone else feel like 5k sounds so much more impressive than 3 miles? I will happily go the extra .1 to call it a 5k. We had some great workouts this week, and even though we have yet to sign up for a race this spring, maybe summer, I feel like our training is going well.

Safe Haven. Technically this movie doesn’t hit theaters until next week, but close enough. I am so excited! Safe Haven was my favorite of all Nicholas Sparks’ novels and I have been impatiently awaiting its movie screen rendition. I hardly ever get to the theaters, so this really is reason to celebrate.

A Clutch New Clutch. My mom picked up this new clutch for me this week and I adore it.
