I love the ‘that amazing/exciting/awkward/ridiculous/awesome moment when’ way of describing a situation. Like this week, when I experienced ‘that awkward moment when someone goes in for the handshake and you go in for the hug.’ I could have told you how I instantly felt absurd, wanted to rewind 5 minutes and play it right, thought about apologizing for the hug, and tried to brush it off, but I feel like ‘that awkward moment when’ line pretty much covers it all. So, here it goes.
That amazing moment when you are so proud of your mom. My mom and the other teachers in training at her yoga studio instructed their first class last weekend. She was amazing and completely in her element. I loved seeing how passionate she was about practicing. It was truly inspiring. I did not fall on my mat or make a scene, and I felt like it was a great workout, so I will consider that one a win-win.
That exciting moment when you decide to do something new. The So Fresh and So Clean Challenge and the Beach Body Challenge are kicking my butt in the best way. I have been incorporating Brooke’s workouts into my morning exercise routine, and I am loving it. I invited my friends to join me for a ‘Workout in the Park’ followed by brunch tomorrow. Deck of cards workout, here we come. Continue reading
First things first, Happy Friday! I am writing this morning from the comforts of my couch on my new iPad, a fantastic birthday gift from my fabulous fiancé! I turned 26 yesterday, meaning that Quarter Century Southern Living isn’t quite as relevant as it was when I first started this blog one year ago. Leave it to me to choose an age and location specific domain.
Birthdays have a way of showing you how incredibly blessed you are. My soon to be sister-in-law, De, wrote a birthday shoutout post, that in the midst of a stressful morning, made me smile. I also happened to receive an Edible Arrangements bouquet from my friend, Emily. The fact that she would send food over flowers shows how well she knows me.
Every gift, card, surprise visit, phone call, and text message meant the world to me. One of my best friends from college took home the prize for creativity as she sent me this –
Which, at first, looked to be a wedding magazine. Again, my friends can read me like a book in that when I opened the front cover, I found this instead –
I even managed to stay awake past 10:00 PM, contrary to Dan’s romantic card to me.
Reader Question: What are your plans for the weekend? TGIF!!
I plan on making tonight’s post a short one, because let’s be honest, by the time I make it to the end of the work week, the fatigue and random thought train is usually making its way through town. Chugga-chugga-choo-choo.
Dan and I stopped at the grocery store tonight for some essentials; a new toy for Nola, Puffins, a rose ylang-ylang bath bomb, and Bisquick. Okay, so maybe ‘essentials’ was the wrong word. Our purchases were more along the line of impulse buys. Regardless, I went a little boy band crazy when we parked and realized that there was a Farmer’s Market in the lot.
I love Farmer’s Markets. I think it is so fun to walk around, to meet the people behind the booths, to try new products, and of course, to take delicious food home! Tonight, we decided on Pineapple and Habanero Sauce and Raspberry Habanero Jam.
I may or may not be pairing these with some cream cheese and wheat thins tonight.
In other news, holla for the weekend!! One of my best friends took the bar exam this week and I am already looking forward to celebrating with her this weekend. Perhaps at a different type of bar. With a margarita in hand.
Reader Questions: Do you like going to Farmer’s Markets? What are your plans for the weekend?
Growing up, I was hardly a 3 meals a day kind of girl. If I’m being honest, I was more of a 1 meal, 10 snacks a day kind of girl. My mom would joke that my dinner lasted between the hours of 4:00 and 6:00. By the time the rest of my family ate a ‘real’ meal, I was already full on cereal, granola bars, yogurt, and some form of chocolate, or frosting, or both.
I am happy to say that with age, I have developed more of a balanced and healthy lifestyle. Today, I will gladly sit down to a supper of vegetable soup and bread.
That’s not to say that I don’t still love my snacks, because, let’s face it, snacks are amazing. However, I have managed to trade my Dunkaroos for Protein Bites. Partially because I can no longer find Dunkaroos at the store, and partially because Protein Bites seem to fill me up and leave me feeling fuller longer.
Dan and I stopped at the grocery store on our way home tonight to grab the ingredients for nachos. Ever since reading the recipe De posted last week, I have been having mad cravings. While at the store, I decided to stock up on the ingredients for chocolate peanut butter protein bites as well. If you’re feeling like getting creative in the kitchen and could use a post-workout or midday snack, here is the recipe I use-
- 3/4 cup coconut flakes
- 1 cup old-fashioned oatmeal
- 1/2 cup peanut butter
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1/2 cup ground flaxseed
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
I mixed all my ingredients and let chill for 30 minutes before rolling these bites.

It’s a good thing that I don’t do a weekly edition of ‘My Riveting Friday Night‘ posts. Because, well, they aren’t. Call me grandma, but I am so tired on Fridays that I often end up asleep on the couch before my normal weeknight “bedtime.”
I fully intended on cooking last night. But then, that would have required a trip to the grocery store, and that just wasn’t happening. Instead, we opted for take-out from our neighborhood Mexican restaurant. Dan and I usually share the chicken fajitas, he has all the meat, and I am happy to share the
Seeing that our dinner wasn’t the healthiest of meals, I was eager to get in a good workout this morning. We hit our favorite trail for a 5 1/2 mile run/walk interval workout. While out, I decided that 75 degree temperatures merit a little poolside dining. We invited a couple of our best friends and my parents over and the cooler made its debut of the season!
