I am officially celebrating my blogversary today! In typing that, I have a hard time believing that blogversary has yet to make its way into the dictionary. Quarter Century Southern Living has become so much more than I ever intended or imagined it would be. It has become…

A place to connect. I have ‘met’ so many amazing ladies through blogging and I truly feel so blessed and grateful to hear your stories and to learn from you. There are blogs that I read more often than I put on make-up or do my hair. Combined. I care about your lives, I celebrate in your successes, I share your struggles, and I appreciate you for allowing me a look into your life.

My outlet. Blogging has offered me the opportunity to share my story. To write about my family, friends, vacations, engagement, and mid-20s living feels like a privilege.

My inspiration. You all inspire me, to accept myself for who I am, to embrace my imperfections, to appreciate each day, to live in the moment, and to be a better person.

My passion. This is what I love to do. I love to read your posts and I love to write mine. I love to sit on the couch after a long day and to settle in and see what is happening in your life. I love to have something that challenges me and encourages me all at once. I love to blog.Image

Reader Question: Why do you blog?

Little Things to Love

I have decided that I need a Friday playlist in my life. Complete with as many ‘working for the weekend’ and ‘this Friday night, do it all again’ references as possible. If you ask me, Fridays are reason for celebration. And what better way to celebrate than with this week’s edition of ‘Little Things to Love.’

New Toiletries. Okay, so I know that some people wouldn’t find this quite blog worthy, but I love getting new products to try.

Do You Know Your Bride & Groom Quizzes. My college roommate of 5 years sent Dan and me these books when we got engaged and they are a blast! Each page comes equipped with random questions about your fiancé.

Completed Workouts. Does anyone else feel like 5k sounds so much more impressive than 3 miles? I will happily go the extra .1 to call it a 5k. We had some great workouts this week, and even though we have yet to sign up for a race this spring, maybe summer, I feel like our training is going well.

Safe Haven. Technically this movie doesn’t hit theaters until next week, but close enough. I am so excited! Safe Haven was my favorite of all Nicholas Sparks’ novels and I have been impatiently awaiting its movie screen rendition. I hardly ever get to the theaters, so this really is reason to celebrate.

A Clutch New Clutch. My mom picked up this new clutch for me this week and I adore it.

Favorites

Today is my dad’s birthday, and considering that he is one of my favorite people on this Earth, I thought it seemed suiting to do a favorites post.

One of my favorite pieces of home décor is the sign that Dan ordered me for Christmas this year. I had pinned something similar on my Pinterest page, and being the clever guy that Dan is, he decided to look there prior to doing his holiday shopping. I absolutely love seeing it when we walk into our place.

One of my favorite desserts to make and eat is puppy chow. I made a couple batches prior to heading out to New York for Thanksgiving. It was easy to carry on the plane and was the perfect between meals and after dinner snack. The only downfall is that I am usually unable to stop myself at 1 or 10 servings.

One of my favorite tops to wear while working out is the GapFit V-neck tee. It is super comfortable and has a great fit. If I am being honest, I also wear this shirt to bed. And to run errands. So, it’s multi-purposeful, nothing wrong with that.

One of my favorite ways to spend an evening is by lounging on the couch, watching a good movie, and having the dogs hang out with me. Of course, friendly tennis ball competition typically plays a part in the night as well.

On a fun side note, Brooke @ Running in Heels nominated me for the Sunshine Award. Her blog is one of my favorites. Thanks, Brooke! I love a good survey and look forward to passing the Sunshine on to others as well!

Reader Question: What are some of your favorite things?

I Want to Grow Old with You

After a week without blogging, I almost don’t know where to begin. I’m actually a bit surprised that my hands haven’t started trembling due to withdrawals. In my defense, it has been a busy few days, with trips to the beach and New York, decorating for Christmas, time with family and friends, and, drum roll please, an engagement! I always save the best for last.

As mentioned last week, Danny Stevie planned an unexpected getaway to my favorite resort before we headed out to the East Coast for Thanksgiving. We left work early, avoided rush hour, busted out some holiday jams, and managed to make it to Galveston before sunset.

We had plans for dinner at Landry’s Seafood and were coincidentally seated in the same booth as we sat in during our getaway last year. Dinner consisted of drinks, appetizers, salad, garlic bread, and entrees galore, with dessert to go. I’ve never been one to turn down chocolate. Fit to burst does not even begin to describe how full we were walking back to the hotel.

Once back to our room, Dan suggested that we take a walk by the beach. I agreed, abiding that I could change into my sweatpants. First things first. We changed, dodged some traffic, and made it down the stairs to the sand without falling on the unlit steps-miraculously. Dan led me out onto a jetty and launched into the most important speech that neither of us will ever entirely remember.

I do, however, recall saying yes before he could finish proposing. That, and encouraging him not to take the ring out of the box above the rocks on the ocean. Our subsequent walk on the beach, along with our celebratory conversations with the people we love, combined to make for the best night of my life.

You make me happier than I ever thought I could be and if you let me I will spend the rest of my life trying to make you feel the same way.
