Happiness Exists in the Journey

Tonight I find myself kneeling by the bed to pray
I haven’t done this in a while
So I don’t know what to say but
‘Lord I feel so small sometimes in this big old place
Yeah, I know there are more important things,
But don’t forget to remember me

A couple days ago, this Carrie Underwood song came onto my Pandora station at work. I would be lying if I said that I didn’t get a little teary eyed listening to it. I can appreciate the feeling of being lost in this world at times.

I have a one bedroom, one bath dah apartment, and a very average wardrobe, car, appearance, and lifestyle. Unlike Carrie Underwood, I could probably get lost in a crowd.

Yet still, when I really think about it, I am, in many ways, living my dream. Not the dream, my dream.

I have an amazing family.

ImageIncredible friends.

ImageThe most precious dog, who even signals for touchdowns.

ImageAnd the world’s best fiancè. In what tourist shop can I find that shirt?

ImageI can make eclair cake in 10 minutes flat.

ImageAnd sand and water are less than an hour away. Hey, happy place.

ImageSo, in my moments of sheer and utter panic of ‘What am I doing with my life?!’ I must remember that happiness exists in the journey.

  1. What a really nice post! It is always a good reminder to think about the little things and how far we have come as opposed to where we are trying to go. My family makes everyday special and awesome. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them!

  2. Love that Carrie song, especially that excerpt. Definitely speaks to me. And I agree, you’re living your dream, and you’re happy. What more could there be? I feel like gratitude is the secret to happiness that no one tells you about. Instead of thinking “I’ll be happy when I get x or move to y”…think about where you are, and where you once were, and be happy with what you already have! Great post 🙂
